Facebook groups are not something that you can typically target using Facebook Ads. That’s because Facebook does not allow for selecting a group for an advertising set up within the advertising manager. But there is a way around it. It involves getting the users of a group to view a piece of content and then leveraging that data to target the group. The key to success here is a very non-salesy piece of content that really speaks to the user.

To set this up follow the following steps:

Step 1:

Create a highly engaging piece of video content to garner as much attention as possible from the relevant Facebook Group.

Step 2:

Post that piece of content in the group from your company page. It is essential to take this step from the company page and not your personal page, because your pixel is linked to your company page, and will be able to read and use the data from the post in the group.

Note: It is likely that your post will not be allowed in the group unless it is very legitimately helpful and in no way promoting your business.

Step 3:

Go to your audience manager with in the Facebook Ads Manager and create an audience. Create a video views audience and select the post you added to the group. Leave this audience build for a couple of days to maximise the amount of people who see/view the content.

Step 4:

You can now set up a campaign and target the group you placed the piece of content in with your adverts by selecting this as your target audience.

Is this impacted by iOS14 privacy changes?
